The Oigami-hotsprings has to the east the Nikkou-mountain range, to the west Tanigawa-range, to the south Akagiyama-mountain , to the north Hotaka-mountain. Located near the Katashina river which flows between these mountains, this hotspring has a rich waterbase. Many festivals and events are hosted throughout the seasons , making a fun place to visit all year around. The most famous of these festival is the anual "Snake Festival" (May 7th-8th), based on the ancient folk god Akagi ( a snake) story , people parade through the town while dancing with a big snake representing the god. The anual morning market (May-November) is also famous for entertaining the visitors. Tourist should visit the Fukiwarino-taki-waterfall, Akagi-mountain, Kasyou-mountain Miroku temple, and the Sonohara-lake. |
Fukiware no Taki waterfall This waterfall is located in the most beautifull part of the Katashina-river valley, nearby is the Ayutobi no Taki waterfalls and the Shishiiwa-rock. The waterfall is V shaped and looks like it split a rock in two hence the name "Fukiware no Taki (gushing and splitting waterfall)" 24ft tall 66ft wide, and is a nationally protected natural treasure. |
Kasyouyama mountainEMirokuji It is believed to be started 1200years ago. Highly regarded by the Tokugawa Shougun Clan. Its famous for housing the biggest Tengu( a mountain god like creature) sculpture in Japan. The Tengu's face is 16ft tall with a 7ft nose. |
Sonohara lake Man made lake by putting a dam up in 40th year of Showa period 1965. Surrounded by beautiful nature full of trees. At the lake sores you can enjoy camping and fishing. |
